What is affiliate marketing?
Affiliate marketing is a form of online marketing in which an advertiser (also called a merchant) pays a commission to an affiliate (partner) for every customer who purchases a product or service through his/her promotion. The affiliate promotes the product or service through his/her website, blog, social media or email marketing and receives a commission based on the number of sales resulting from this.
There are different forms of affiliate marketing, such as pay-per-sale, pay-per-click and pay-per-lead. With pay-per-sale, the affiliate receives a commission for every sale achieved through his/her promotion. With pay-per-click, the affiliate receives a commission for every click on an affiliate link, regardless of whether a sale results. With pay-per-lead, the affiliate receives a commission for each lead (for example completing a contact form) generated through his/her promotion.
Affiliate marketing is an effective way to promote products or services and make money at the same time. For advertisers it is a way to bring their products or services to the attention of a larger audience and for affiliates it is a way to monetize their online presence.
